Tenuta Castello Farm: the specialists in Organic Carnaroli.
Founded in 1833, the Tenuta Castello family farm has centuries of history, values and tradition in what has been called the rice capital (Vercelli). The farm continues to operate in its original location within the Castle of Desana.
Our rice (both organic carnaroli and rice of other varieties) is produced according to organic parameters, with particular attention to the experimentation of innovative green techniques including green mulching.
Tenuta Castello has also been selected as member of the list of Carnaroli Classico producers (a chain established and controlled by the Ente Nazionale Risi), a guarantee of quality and varietal purity. The term “Classico”, in fact, indicates that the rice in question is 100% Carnaroli, without cuts or blends with very similar varieties, which, although allowed by law, would affect the quality of our rice.
Wholegrain brown rice, semi-integral rice….but never white rice!
With a sense of profound respect of the naturalness of the product and its environment, our rice is still traditionally processed with machinery from the early 1900s. In fact, the light stone processing keeps the characteristics of the grain intact: a great resistance to cooking, a high percentage of fibers and an intense taste. The great attention to health and nutritional values has led us to process our rice less and less, in fact it is not bleached, but kept darker. While maintaining all its taste and natural structure, Carnaroli Classico by Tenuta Castello proves to be a great rice for risotto. Furthermore, our brown rice is not processed at all, except for the husking process, in which the husk is removed (external inedible rind).

Tenuta Castello is made up not only of the farm, but also the organic breeding of Fassona Piemontese cattle, the rice mill, the castle and the park, all of which can be visited; moreover, there are two rooms for conferences and events and a shop where you will find all our products.

Tenuta Castello farm covers an area of 500 hectares, of which 120 are cultivated with rice and the rest with meadows, soy and cereals. the business is conducted by the members of the family, who manages the entire product chain, from the preparation of the land to the harvest, from the transformation in the rice mill with stone grinders to the packaging, always guaranteeing the certainty of a controlled product in all its phases. Full of charm and history, it is the ideal place to host banquets and ceremonies. Inside the Castle, the Capriate Hall can accommodate up to 180 people in a refined and harmonious environment. The park of the Castle, large and choreographically illuminated, offers with its open spaces a dreamlike atmosphere and an enchanting background. Guided tours of the castle and park are also possible, upon reservation and for groups.
GUIDED TOUR TO THE CASTLE, RICE FIELDS AND RICE MILL
Guided tour can be organized for groups. The visit begins with some historical and cultural notes on the company, continues with a tour in the countryside, where all the secrets of rice cultivation will be revealed, from the preparation of the fields, to sowing, from cleansing to harvest, and will end in the company rice mill. in which the transformation process will be explained.
